As you get older, the world seems to move a bit faster.
A couple days a week I have to take a long bus ride to get to work, and one day, while passing a bus stop, I spotted two elderly women sitting together. There was actually something very wonderful in this sight...as they waited for their bus, holding each others' hands to keep warm, you could see that these women were dear friends, just completely enjoying the company of each other. It made me wonder...when I am that old, will I have a companion that will wait at the bus stop with me? Someone who I can sit with and watch the world go by? Some days I just don't know....

yuck
I live in an amazing city and I can't even enjoy it because I spend all day reading about how a capitalist dominated society screws over billions of people in the world on a daily basis. If this isn't a prescription for depression I am not sure what is. Here's some facts:
* 7 million children die each year as a result of the debt crisis.
* In the 52 poorest countries, a total of 1 billion people shoulder a debt burden of 500 billion dollars (that's with a "B"). It is interesting to note that this is less than the total net worth of the world's 21 richest individuals.
Isn't that amazing?
I once thought the more you know, the better off you are...but who ever coined the term "naivety is bliss" really got it right. So as you enjoy your $5 Starbucks coffee while wearing your designer clothes, and admiring that diamond ring, you just might want to pause for a second and think about WHERE all of those products came from in the first place.

Day 3 without pizza
So, I have zero willpower when it comes to pizza- zero, none. It is ridiculous how much and how often I can eat the lovely, cheesy goodness. And now that I live in Rome, I can have it anytime, anywhere...there are literally 10 places I could walk to within 2 minutes and be enjoying a slice RIGHT NOW! But, the thing is, and I'm not quite sure if you know this, but pizza isn't exactly qualified as a "health food" :) I believe that since I have moved here, I have had at least one slice everyday- that's almost 3 weeks straight! Needless to say, my pants have gotten a bit tight! Sadly, I had to realize that even if I walk miles and miles everyday, it's not going to take away all of those calories from that slice of heaven. So, as of 3 days ago, I cut myself off! I was really proud of myself last night- I had a few cocktails and when the time came, I did not cave to the late night gods that were calling my name; but you can bet if I were back in Adams Morgan, I guarantee a Jumbo Slice would have been in my hands! I would love to say that I am going to make it to my goal and go at least a week without it, but as soon as I smell the delicious aroma of ripe tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, it could all be over.

The Accidental Blogger
I never thought that I would be someone that would get involved in this, but here I am spending way too much time setting up my blog page...funny. I have to thank Trinea; apparently you cannot even respond to someone's blog without having one of your own, who knew? It has sucked me in the way Facebook did in those first few weeks (who am I kidding, it still does!) and now I am more concerned with what I am going to write than what I should be reading for my master's program. Gotta love procrastination! Anyway, wish me luck...hopefully this is not one of those things that sounds like a good idea and then 2 months from now you never hear from me again, we'll see what happens :)
